Betsy Callan, AM, LCSW
Betsy Callan is a Licensed Clinical Therapist and Eating Disorder Specialist. Betsy earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan and earned her graduate degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago.
As a clinician who has worked in several different treatment centers, Betsy is able to help people struggling with even the most challenging issues. Betsy’s experience includes two years at The Renfrew Center of New York as a therapist and admissions coordinator and many years as a therapist at the Eating Recovery Center (ERC) of Chicago where she co-launched the Binge Eating Partial Hospital (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs. Prior to joining Proactive, Betsy was the Clinical Manger of the Binge Eating PHP and IOP programs at ERC.
Betsy uses all evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP); and she has presented on these frameworks at conferences in Denver and Dallas. Betsy specializes in compulsive overeating, OCD and all anxiety disorders, and she enjoys helping people struggling with relationships.
Betsy’s clients describe her as authentic, warm, and open and have said they enjoy her lighthearted and, at times, humorous approach. Betsy helps her clients live a life that aligns with their values and helps them identify what they want in the future. Betsy cherishes her time with clients and creates strong therapeutic bonds with each person.
