INDIVIDUAL
THERAPY


Therapy provides a secure space for you to explore areas of your life that trouble you. We will access and build upon your innate strengths to learn new ways to approach problems or longstanding habits. You will learn skills that you can immediately apply to improve your life and well-being. Therapy with us can be brief with the intention of providing you with the tools needed to work through your current struggles and to equip you for whatever challenges might arise in the future. We offer therapy for individuals and couples located anywhere in Illinois via telehealth and in our offices in downtown Chicago (the loop). We specialize in anxiety, eating disorders and body image concerns, OCD, trauma, depression, relationships, stress, burnout, and life changes. We work with teens age 13 through adulthood.

HOW TO BEGIN INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

To explore the possibility of working together, please click on the button below to schedule a complimentary phone consultation with our intake coordinator or complete our online form. If we believe that our practice is a good mutual fit, then we will suggest a therapist for you and schedule your initial session. After we've set up your initial appointment, we will send you a link to our online secure patient portal where you will be able to complete all of the necessary paperwork and insurance information in advance.

In your first few sessions, your therapist will gather an understanding of your needs and help you determine specific goals for therapy.

COUPLES THERAPY


We believe all couples can benefit from couples therapy to promote greater intimacy, reduce conflict, improve communication, and to learn tools for long-term success.  We recommend couples therapy not only when experiencing conflict or an ongoing issue, but also during times of change (e.g. after becoming engaged, bringing home a new baby, moving to a new city, or one partner beginning a new job). 

When people come together to form a relationship, their individual backgrounds, families, experiences, past relationship history, personalities, and cultures must all come together. It’s difficult to navigate all of these unique factors as our own circumstances merge with someone else’s. At any point in your relationship (early dating, engaged, married for one year or fifteen) you and your partner may be facing problems for which there are simple solutions. We welcome all couples regardless of gender identity, relationship status, or sexual orientation.

Our couples therapists are trained in the Gottman Method of Couples Therap—a research-based approach to couples therapy. The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicts; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

 Family Therapy


Our therapists, with expertise in family therapy, can help you and your family members deepen your understanding, improve your communication, and strengthen your relationships. Common goals of family therapy include setting healthy boundaries, coping with one or more family member’s mental health challenges, working through life stressors that impact the family, increasing trust, navigating conflict, and learning how to have difficult conversations. Family therapy can include families with adult children or adolescents. Parents need support too. We help parents gain confidence, learn strategies for self care, establish better ways of co-parenting and navigate life changes including adjusting to parenthood or the next phase in their children’s lives. With several eating disorder specialists on our team, we have specific expertise in helping families who have a loved one struggling with an eating disorder.

What is online therapy?

Online therapy also known as telehealth, telemedicine, virtual therapy or teletherapy is therapy conducted remotely over the internet.  

What are the benefits of online therapy?

Online Therapy at Proactive Therapy can provide a convenient, accessible, safe space for you to explore and work through any issue that has been keeping you stuck.

If you've been putting your emotional wellness on hold because of your busy schedule or lack of options in your area, you don't have to any longer.

Online therapy is similar to in-office therapy. Instead of meeting in an office together, you meet with your therapist over the internet via our secure HIPAA compliant software.

Do I need to be in Illinois for therapy?

Our therapists are all licensed in Illinois so we can see clients who are currently located in Illinois for online therapy. Some of our therapists hold dual licensure and are able to see clients who are in Wisconsin, Michigan and Colorado as well.

Online therapy can be helpful for addressing most issues you would typically address in therapy, including:

 GROUPS
& EVENTS


Joining a group of strangers may sound intimidating at first, but groups can provide benefits that individual therapy may not. Group members are almost always surprised by how rewarding the group experience can be. Groups can act as a support network and a sounding board.

Groups are led by one of our Licensed Clinical Therapists and usually include 5–10 group members. Typically, groups meet for 90 minutes each week. Many people attend individual therapy in addition to groups, while others participate in groups only. We enjoy collaborating with other therapists, and we welcome clients who see therapists at other practices to take part in our groups.

Some of our groups are designed to target a specific problem, such as binge eating or relationship struggles. Other groups focus more generally on strengthening coping skills, helping people learn to manage intense emotions, or become more present in their day to day lives.
